John entered the insurance industry in 1986. From 1986 to 1988, he was an agent for Connecticut General, Prudential, and Mutual of New York. In 1988, he went on his own and began selling primarily health insurance to real estate offices. Two years later, the Southern Alameda County Association of Realtors® (SACAR®)—currently the Bay East Association of Realtors®—selected John to be their official insurance broker. In 1992, there was a void in real estate errors & omissions insurance. As such, SACAR® tasked John with finding errors & omissions insurance for their members, and, as a result, he immediately began offering errors & omissions insurance to real estate and related offices.
From 1988 to 1997, John operated as a sole proprietorship, John F. Austin, CFP. Austin & Austin Insurance Services, Inc. was formed in July 1997.
In early 2013, Austin & Austin became the insurance brokerage for the North Bay Association of Realtors® programs.
More than 1,600 real estate and related offices trust Austin & Austin to place their insurance. John and his team have broker relationships with more than a dozen insurance programs offering such insurance. John enjoys giving errors & omissions presentations for groups of Realtors® to share his experiences regarding real estate errors & omissions insurance and the most important aspects of the policies.
In March 2019, Austin & Austin was acquired by Brown & Brown, Inc., the sixth largest insurance brokerage in the United States. The Austin & Austin team proudly maintains its renowned customer service, client focus, and industry knowledge and now has extensive national and international assets and resources courtesy of Brown & Brown.
John graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Happily married with two adult children and two dogs, John enjoys playing tennis, cycling, walking, and hiking. He also loves spending time with his wife, family, and friends.
